Layout

We propose a runway layout sensitive to the natural terrain which would shield Scripps Ranch from the airport operations.  By shifting the runways to the south and lowering the pad itself we do less rough grading and the natural ridge protects the homes to the north by deflecting noise and by hiding airport operations from view.

The following maps and photographs illustrate that airport operations would be hidden from surrounding homes and that the "noise shadow" would not subject homes to high levels of noise because the proposed pad is surrounded by open space of from two miles to ten miles, or more.

Slight shift in the former layout is more sensitive to the natural terrain.  Mission Trails Regional Park to the South.

Runway Layouts
Consultants pad (Yellow)  Refined SDPRF pad (White)

Notice that the preliminary layout shown in yellow straddles the natural ridge and fills the lowest valley.  Shifting the layout to the south and lowering the pad elevation from 900' to 750' will allow the high ridge to shield the facility from homes at Scripps ranch in terms of view and noise.

Consultants Airport View
Consultants pad (Yellow)

View from Scripps ranch of the preliminary (yellow) plan shows a terribly high embankment and exposes all airport operations to view.

View of Our Solution
Refined SDPRF pad (White)

The refined layout, further south, is about 400' below the natural ridge line.  The view from the homes at Scripps Ranch which lie below the opposite side of the ridge is of a natural valley.  Airport operations are hidden and distant.

Our Solution
Refined SDPRF pad (White)

The refined approach path.  Note the high, natural ridge to the north (left) of the airport and the homes further north beyond that ridge, and that Mission Trails Park is to the south of the proposed airport.  There would be no homes in the vicinity of aircraft operations. The approach from the east is clear for ten miles or more.

Athority Solution

The consultants preliminary approach path (yellow) and the refined runway layout (White).

Aproach Obstructions

The consultant's layout for east Miramar shows some minor intrusions at about 9 miles out.  We have shown that by rotating the airport approach slightly, aircraft will miss all obstructions and approach well north of Santee.
